Sunday at the Nürburgring Part 1 - Seventh pole for Hahn

21. July 2019Nürburgring - The sky was a heavenly blue on the morning of this final day of Round 4 of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at the Nürburgring, though the fans will have found it difficult to drag themselves awake after the spectacular fireworks and the concerts through the night (and everywhere in the paddock). The truck racers themselves had no such difficulty – they were fully awake and alert for the warm-up, which tankpool24 Racing’s Norbert Kiss (HUN) topped, no sweat, with 1:55.476. But home hero Jochen Hahn (Iveco), Czech Adam Lacko (Buggyra Freightliner), and MAN pilot Antonio Albacete (ESP) all came close, within fractions of a second. A sign of things to come in Q2?
For some of the pilots, qualifying was touch and go till the very end. Not for Kiss, however. The Hungarian ace laid down a 1:55.157 and returned to pit lane to await his go in the Super Pole. MAN pilot Sascha Lenz (GER), Hahn, Albacete, German Iveco pilots René Reinert and Steffi Halm, Lacko, and German Gerd Körber (Iveco) all did likewise. André Kursim (Iveco) kept it till the closing minutes to go out – and perch himself in P2! French MAN pilot Anthony Janiec stayed out as long as he possibly could, to be able to defend a position in the top 10 that was far from secure.
Hahn, who’d taken it easy this far, turned it up in the Super Pole with a 1:54.219 that bagged the bantam from Altensteig his seventh pole out of eight. The others all attempted another hot lap, but Lenz managed the only improvement, by a solid two positions.
Kiss joined Hahn on the front row. Behind them are Albacete, Lenz, Lacko, Halm, Reinert, Kursim, Körber, and Janiec.
