Sunday at the Hungaroring Part 2 – Hahn takes the second victory of the weekend

23. June 2019Hungaroring - In the afternoon break it began to rain – not heavily in fact, but enough to persuade the stewards to have the race started under yellow flags, which requires every driver to follow the one who’s qualified ahead of him. The race was green-lighted only at the end of this procession lap, but by that time Hahn was comfortably ahead of Halm and gaps had opened up further down the field as well. With Lenz in tow, the all-German trio simply ran away from the rest.
Next up came a knot of trucks led by Kiss, with
Albacete, Kursim, and Reinert in hot pursuit. We’d reckoned that the Hungarian would revel in the conditions, especially after his virtuosic display in the rain in Misano, and that he’d soon be attacking the trio ahead.
But the track was not as slippery as we’d supposed, at least going by the lap times, which were hardly any worse than those in Race 1 yesterday. At the end everyone was lapping faster than at the start. Whereas nobody had driven 2:20s yesterday in the best of conditions, now four pilots did. And so the home hero found himself under pressure throughout, but he was well able to hold Albacete off till the flag.
Kursim had fallen back rapidly, and now had to focus his attention on the rear, from where first Reinert and then Lacko caught up and then overtook.
Everyone was now waiting for Lenz to finally attack Halm and move ahead into P2, but that attempt evaporated before it even began – the MAN pilot pulled off on the penultimate lap with damage to his steering gear.
Kiss was thus gifted P3 and wildly applauded by his countrymen. Albacete came in next, followed by Reinert, Lacko, Kursim, and Jamie Anderson (MAN), who picked up pole for the final race of the weekend. The two remaining places in the points were taken by José Rodrigues (MAN) and Gibbon.
The one-two by Hahn and Halm meant that „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ were the clear team winners, ahead of tankpool24 Racing (Kiss / Citignola) and Buggyra International (Janes / Lacko).
Anderson claimed victory in the Grammer Truck Cup from Gibbon and tankpool24 Racing’s German rookie Fabio Citignola.
