Sunday at the Hungaroring Part 1 – Hahn makes it two poles out of two

23. June 2019Hungaroring - Following heavy showers overnight, the track had not completely dried out when the truck racers tootled out for the warm-up early this morning. But many of them, led by Iveco pilot Jochen Hahn (GER), lapped at race pace, all quite close to each other. Qualifying was going to be exciting.
Here too, Hahn topped the timesheet with 2:19.857, a wee five hundredths of a second above compatriot Sascha Lenz (MAN). The top racers were once again very closely spaced, only a second separating Hahn and P8. Most of them were back in the pits after a single lap in the hope of preserving their tyres. They’d qualified for the Super Pole, and that’s all that mattered. The list included Iveco pilot André Kursim, home hero Norbert Kiss (Mercedes-Benz), Steffi Halm (Iveco), Adam Lacko (Buggyra Freightliner), Antonio Albacete (MAN), Iveco pilot René Reinert, and Terry Gibbon and Luis Recuenco (both MAN).
Hahn went even faster in the Super Pole, and his 2:19.326 proved unassailable. Halm was three tenths off on her first lap, good for P2. Lenz and Kiss recorded identical times to the thousandth, but because the German completed his lap first, he gets to start from P3. That will be of little advantage, though, because Kiss will start alongside on Row 2.
Albacete managed P5, ahead of Kursim, Reinert, Recuenco, Lacko, and Gibbon.
