Saturday at the Hungaroring Part 2 – Hahn wins it with ease

22. June 2019Hungaroring - At the start of the first race of the weekend the temperature had climbed past 27°. Out in the sun it was unpleasantly hot, and the track surface had heated up beyond 50°.
Polesitter Hahn was cool as ice, what with all his experience of 20-odd years in the sport and five championships. The Iveco pilot made it out of the first corner in the lead, and then spun out one flawless lap after another to win the race by a comfortable margin.
Lacko seized P2 from Albacete in the first corner, but couldn’t match Hahn’s pace. They were followed at a respectable distance by José Rodrigues and Kursim in P4 and P5.
It was behind them that the real action unfolded. Home hero Kiss had stormed up to P5, while Steffi Halm had dropped to P8 and Lenz to P10. Anderson, right in the thick of it, was forced to drop out with a defect on his truck. Kiss and Halm delivered the most exciting duel of the race, trading places back and forth, the Iveco pilotess finishing ahead. Lenz lurked behind them, but could find no opportunity to intervene.
At about mid-race, Lacko was called in for a drive-through penalty for repeated overspeed infringements. That promoted everyone behind him by one position, the Czech himself rejoining in P9 and proceeding to challenge Iveco pilot René Reinert for P8, which would have meant a pole-position start in Race 2.
The podium went to Hahn, Albacete, and Jose Rodrigues. Kursim in P4 was followed home by Halm, Kiss, Lenz, and Lacko, who finally succeeded in subduing Reinert and capturing the coveted P8. Oly Janes (GBR) in the second Buggyra took the final point.
The result was rewritten about an hour later, Lacko being disqualified altogether for exceeding the 160 km/h limit after his drive-through. P8 and pole for Race 2 were handed to Reinert, and Recuenco was promoted to P10.
„Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Steffi Halm) took the team win, ahead of Löwen Power (Albacete / Lenz) and Reboconort Truck Racing Team (José & Eduardo Rodrigues).
