Sunday in Most Part 2 - Hahn breezes back to the top of the pecking order

02. September 2018Most - You’d never believe it - the rain had stopped, and by the start of Race 3 the track had largely dried out, with the exception of a few damp patches. For the first time this weekend we had a proper start – not, as yesterday, two formation laps behind the pace truck and then one with no overtaking allowed.
Hahn handily outran polesitter Lacko in the sprint to the first corner. Lenz likewise beat Kiss and almost got the better of the Buggyra pilot into the chicane. But Lacko made the better exit out of the second corner to ensconce himself ahead of the MAN in yellow, green, and black. The outcome of the race was there decided, even if that wasn’t quite apparent yet. Hahn wasn’t at pedal-to-the-metal, but still managed progressively to stretch his lead. Lacko, who everybody expected to go hunt Hahn down, was instead hounded by Lenz, and the MAN pilot in turn had Kiss all over his rear crash guard.
In P5 was Albacete, rounding out the entire quartet of currently active champions in the field who account for 10 titles between them, Lenz the interloper sandwiched in between. While Hahn preserved his lead till the flag, each of the closely spaced quartet behind him – with less than 2,5 seconds covering all four – kept going in the fervent hope that one of the others would make a mistake, so evenly matched were they. But nobody did make a mistake, at least none that had any consequences, and so it was Lacko and Lenz that collected the podium places. Kiss and Albacete had no choice but to grin and bear the ignominy of finishing P4 and P5.
Reinert came home next, trailed by Jose Rodrigues and Brit Shane Brereton (MAN), whose P8 finish brought with it the reward of pole position for the final race of the weekend.
Kursim and Steffi Halm picked up the two remaining places in the points.
Brereton was the topper in the Grammer Truck Cup classification, ahead of Mercedes pilot Steffen Faas and Oly Janes.
„Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Halm) stood atop the European Champion Team podium, with Reinert Adventure (Lenz / Reinert) and Buggyra Racing 1969 (Lacko / Janes) first and second runners-up.
