Saturday in Most Part 3 - Lacko unstoppable, takes his second win in the wet

01. September 2018Most - At first glance the conditions seemed to have improved at the start of Race 2, but the lap times suggested otherwise. While the racers – well, most of them – struggled for grip, home fave Adam Lacko pretty much eased to his second win of the day.
At the start it didn’t look like the race would end that way. As in the earlier heat, two formation laps were followed by an opening lap under yellow-flag caution. Polesitter Reinert was able to build out a cushion, while Halm held P2 ahead of Kursim. When the restriction on overtaking was lifted, Kursim was the first to fall prey to the hunting pack. Kiss, Albacete, and Hahn moved ahead of the Iveco pilot in short order, leaving him in P6, with Lenz right behind him. Lacko seemed stuck in P8.
But then Albacete and Hahn came together heavily, forcing the German’s Iveco wide into the gravel, from which he was happy to have been able to extricate the machine by its own power. The Spaniard’s MAN appeared to be suffered no damage and simply kept going, but Hahn lost several places. For Lacko, this provided the spark that ignited a blaze. Soon Albacete was seen wrestling with his steering, a technical failure that forced the Spaniard out on the 7th lap. Lacko was now in P4, right up behind Kiss, but overtaking the Hungarian ex-champ in the Mercedes is no easy undertaking. On the contrary, he was only spurred on to a renewed assault on Halm ahead, and the threat from Lacko only seemed to subside when he was past the Iveco. But he had the charging Czech back on his tail in no time.
Having made it this far up the field in front of his home fans, the Buggyra pilot evidently wasn’t going to be content with a P3 finish and he attacked the black-and-red tankpool24 Mercedes at every opportunity; on the penultimate lap he was through into P2.
All this while, race leader Reinert’s advantage had shrunk considerably, but it was still difficult to imagine Lacko dispatching him as well. The two were neck and neck out of the last corner on the sprint to the finish line. Reinert got his wheels on the grass, giving Lacko an instantaneous advantage of 17 hundredths at the flag.
The podium three –Lacko, Reinert, and Kiss – were trailed home by Halm in P4, Kursim, and Hahn, who had fought his way back up.
P7 was Lenz, despite a 10 second overspeed penalty. J. Rodrigues, Janes, and Faas took the remaining points in that order.
Like his Titan-ic teammate in the FIA classification, Janes was victor in the Grammer Truck Cup for the second time today, ahead of Faas and Czech veteran Frankie Vojtíšek (MAN).
Reinert Adventure (Lenz / Reinert) was the top-scoring team, followed by Buggyra Racing 1969 (Lacko / Janes) and level-on-points „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Halm).
Hahn continues to lead the overall standings with 205 points, followed by Lacko (161), Kiss (137), Albacete (122), Halm (118), Lenz (115), Reinert (94), and Kursim (89).
