Saturday in Most Part 2 - Rain man Lacko wraps up Race 1

01. September 2018Most - There was a rather unwelcome surprise for the fans before the start of the first race of the weekend. The programme had fallen far behind schedule, so the grid walk was summarily cancelled.
Even less welcome was the unrelenting drizzle. But most unwelcome news for Albacete, Hahn, Kiss, and Reinert was that they were to start the race with three-position handicaps each because, in the opinion of the stewards, they had disregarded a yellow flag waved during the Super Pole. That meant Lenz was now on pole, with ex-teammate Halm alongside.
Considering the track was now awash, the stewards decided that the race would start with two formation laps behind the pace truck and the first lap run under yellow flags, i.e. with no overtaking permitted. Lenz controlled the pace and pulled out a small advantage over Halm, who had Lacko nipping at her heels.
As soon as the yellow flags were withdrawn Lenz proceeded to stretch his lead somewhat, while Halm presently wilted under Lacko’s onslaught and had to let the Buggyra pilot past. In another display of sheer wizardry in the wet, the Czech had soon left Lenz behind and headed off for a chanceless victory. The young MAN pilot wasn’t giving second place up for anything. But Halm continued to drop down the order. She was first overtaken by „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ teammate Hahn, who had battled his way forward from 7th on the grid. Their podium positions secure, Lacko, Lenz, and Hahn continued to pull away from the rest of the field.
No matter how hard she tried, Halm had little to offer in the way of resistance to the relentless attacks of Albacete, Kiss, and even Kursim. The only lady pilot in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship finally crossed the line in 7th.
Reinert finished 8th, collecting pole for Race 2. The two remaining points-paying places were snapped up by Brits Oly Janes (Buggyra Freightliner) and Jamie Anderson (MAN).
Janes took the Grammer Truck Cup honours ahead of Anderson and Faas.
Buggyra Racing 1969 (Lacko / Janes) was the top team, followed by „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Halm) and Team Reinert Adventure (Lenz / Reinert).
