Sunday in Misano Part 2 – Hahn wins a second time

27. May 2018Misano - The cloud cover dissipated in time for the sun to shine down on Sunday’s first race, its effulgence heating the asphalt on the pit straight to over 50°.
By contrast the truck racers, particularly Hahn and his „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ teammate Steffi Halm, kept their cool. Hahn handily defended his pole and was clear in the lead at the exit of Turn 1. Halm made a lightning start and got right up alongside Kiss, well known himself as an excellent starter. A few relentlessly contested curves later she moved ahead of the Hungarian to slot in behind Hahn.
Separated by respectful distances, the trio divvied up the podium between them.
The race for 4th was a real contest, Albacete clinging to the crash guard of his MAN colleague Reinert all the way to the flag, which the German took just two tenths ahead.
The battle for 6th was another close duel, an all-German one. Kursim was ahead by a nose at the start, and even if Lenz’s MAN appeared somewhat quicker, the Iveco pilot was nevertheless able to hold him off for a relatively secure 6th.
Defending champ Lacko could reach no higher than 8th. A damaged rear tyre, which almost worked itself off its rim, put paid to any hope he might have entertained of gaining places. On the final lap Smith grabbed his position, and with it pole for the final race. The MAN of Thomas Robineau also made it past the Buggyra, leaving the Czech in 10th, holding on to a single point.
„Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Halm) was the strongest team by an overwhelming points margin ahead of Reinert Adventure (Lenz / Reinert) and tankpool24 Racing (Kiss / Faas).
