Sunday in Misano Part 1 – Hahn makes it two poles in a row

27. May 2018Misano - You can’t call it sunny here at the Misano World Circuit on the second race day of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, but it’s still been rather warm from the time the truck racers got out for the warm-up. At that early hour Steffi Halm, the only female racer in the field, was quickest of all in her Iveco.
It was 25° at the start of qualifying, the sky now clouded over.
Iveco pilot Jochen Hahn (GER) recorded a 2:02.701 on his first. André Kursim was next, three tenths slower in his Iveco, followed very closely by Hungarian Norbert Kiss (Mercedes), Germans Steffi Halm and René Reinert (MAN), Buggyra Freightliner pilot Adam Lacko (CZE), and MANler Sascha Lenz – the spread was just six tenths. All seven were back in after just one lap, sure of their place in the top 10. MAN stalwarts Antonio Albacete (ESP) and Ryan Smith (GBR), and Gerd Körber (GER) in the fourth Iveco, were the three remaining drivers to make it to the second phase of qualifying.
Hahn went out after the five minute interval and returned a jaw-dropping 2:02.262, a time way beyond reach for the rest of the field. The four-times champion was in a league apart; after him, though, things got extremely close. Kiss claimed second place on the front row, with a time almost seven tenths off Hahn’s. The Hungarian in turn was only 12 thousandths quicker than Halm, with Reinert the barest three thousandths behind on 4th. Albacete, Lacko, Kursim, Lenz, Smith, and Körber occupy the remaining positions on the first five rows of the start grid for Race 3.
