Sunday in Jarama Part 2 - Kiss doubles down on 3rd place with his sixth win of the season

08. October 2017Jarama - Polesitter Norbert Kiss wasn’t about to let anyone get the better of him and demonstrated from the go that he’s not here just for fun. In any case, the Hungarian’s third place in the standings was still under threat from Steffi Halm.
Kiss took the lead relatively effortlessly at the start, but had Lacko’s Freightliner clung to his crash guard on the first couple of laps. But then the newly crowned champion was set upon by the reigning titleholder, which allowed the tankpool24 pilot to quietly build out his advantage even as Lacko and Hahn engaged in their own personal duel.
On the 3rd lap Hahn made it past Lacko and started to close in on Kiss, but there was no foiling the Mercedes pilot’s inexorable escape to victory, which cemented the Hungarian’s 3rd place in the standings
Lacko’s podium place was under constant threat till midrace. Every now and again the crowd erupted when Albacete, determined to find a way onto the podium, would make a move to overtake the Freightliner. But Lacko countered each attack, and when the home hero’s MAN suddenly lost stamina the Czech was assured of 3rd place.
Albacete continued to drop back and, over the space of a few laps had lost several places. At first he had to make way for the MAN of Steffi Halm. But even 5th place was difficult for the Spaniard to hold onto – a lap later both Vršecký and Lenz moved ahead. When one lap later even Körber managed to overtake, the fans were convinced their hero was about to drop out completely. But they should have known – Albacete isn’t one to go down without a scrap. Down in 8th, the prize of pole position for the final race of the season seems to have given the thrice-champ second wind.
The last two places in the points went to José Rodrigues and Kursim.
Tankpool24 (Kiss / Kursim) took the team victory, ahead of Buggyra Racing 1969 (Vršecký / Lacko) and „Die Bullen von Iveco Magirus“ (Hahn / Körber).
José Rodrigues picked up the Promoter’s Cup victory, his second this weekend, and with it the first ever Promoter’s Cup title. Kursim and Dutchman Erwin Kleinnagelvoort (Scania) were first and second runners-up.
