Truck racing on the Isles to be flagged off

23. March 2017Brands Hatch - The European truck racing season kicks off in Brands Hatch this weekend with the first round of the British championship. Racing on the Isles takes place in two classes, and a whopping 29 pilots have registered for the season-opener. At Brands Hatch the trucks lap the shorter, 1.95km “Indy Circuit”, which means the spectators will have trucks whiz past more often than on any other circuit anywhere.
Last year’s Division One and Two champions Ryan Smith (MAN) and Adam Bint (Volvo White), both starters in last Sunday’s T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship Pro Class race at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, will be joined by T1 Prima co-contestants Shane Brereton (MAN), Oly Janes (Buggyra Freightliner), David Jenkins (MAN), and Simon Reid (Iveco).
While the six were tacitly required to exercise mutual restraint at the Indian races, they can forget about any kid-gloves treatment from the competition back home. In particular, 10-times British champion and 2004 European champ Stuart Oliver, who won the T1 Prima races in 2014 and 2015, will be fully motivated right from the start in his Volvo, having had to cede the 2016 championship to Smith by a sliver.
The British Truck Racing Championship will be fought over eight weekends, the concluding round in November also taking place at Brands Hatch.
