Sunday in Most Part 2 – Hahn is King of the Road

04. September 2016Most - Right at the start of Sunday’s first race the drizzle began, but praise God it stayed just that way. Polesitter Hahn had obviously already discounted this prospect, mindful of the fact that, so far this season, it’s his leading opponent Lacko who’s better come to terms with racing in the rain. And so Hahn wasn’t hanging around one tick at the start, emphasising that his timesheet-shattering pole-winning lap wasn’t a chance occurrence.
He was clear in the lead going into the first corner, going on to set a pace nobody else could match. Halfway through, the MAN pilot already had a five-second advantage over Lacko, who likewise was able to build a reasonably safe cushion over his pursuers. The two went unchallenged all the way to the flag, finishing first and second.
The prize third podium position was fiercely contested. Till mid-race Janiec had defended his start position from a hounding pack led by Steffi Halm and consisting of Körber, Reinert, and Kiss. But the Frenchman was suddenly struck by a steering failure, which put paid to his race. Halm was only able to enjoy 3rd place for one lap; in a moment of distraction the German lady racer let four pursuing trucks get ahead of her.
Reinert now led this group – having started way back in 10th, mind you – and he held on to finish third, followed in intervals of a second each by Körber and Kiss, then Halm a further three seconds behind.
Lenz crossed the line in 7th, ahead of Buggyra pilot Forman, who thus gets to start on pole for the final race.
The final two places in the points were snapped up by Britishers Smith and Shane Brereton (both MAN).
André Kursim ran in the points for several laps till he had a tyre damage on the rear right after a hard fight with Smith. A little later Brereton got the better of the German youngster, leaving him in a thankless – point(s)less – 11th place.
After the race was over, Kiss and Halm traded places in the classification — the Hungarian had 10 seconds slapped on to his elapsed time for overspeeding.
Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) was a clearly superior team winner, with Buggyra International (Lacko / Forman) and tankpool24 (Kiss / Kursim) second and third.
