Jubilees in the Black Forest

07. August 2016Team Hahn Racing celebrated its 20 years in the sport in July with a massive celebration in Altensteig and in its works in Egenhausen. Completely eclipsed by the festivities at Hahn was a smaller jubilee only 30 km away in Ammerbuch - Steffi Halm’s completion of five years of truck racing.
Team Hahn had done a super job sprucing up its Egenhausen workshop for the festivities, and every vestige of the mudflow that had invaded large parts of the halls only a few weeks earlier, during one of the many severe storms we’ve witnessed this summer, had disappeared.
The team invited friends, supporters, and its many gracious neighbours to an open house. The weather was gorgeous and many seized the opportunity to get a look behind the scenes at one of European truck racing’s most successful outfits.
When Konrad Hahn and his brother Jörg started out in the sport in 1996 – as a hobby then, – they never dreamt that this would be the beginnings of a professional race team with which the second Hahn generation in Jochen would win FIA European Truck Racing Championship thrice in a row.
But Hahn Racing hasn’t only shaped up as an ultracompetitive racing team; Jochen Hahn and his crew have actually been more successful with the second pillar of their enterprise, the construction and tuning of race trucks for customers.
More than 20 Hahn-built race trucks, both MAN and Mercedes-Benz, are presently in action in a diversity of national and international truck racing series, all very successfully. In fact the last five years’ championship-winning trucks in the FIA series are all products of the Hahn shops in Altensteig and Egenhausen. Three of the top four trucks in this year’s European championship are Hahn MANs - and one of them is piloted by... Steffi Halm.
The 32-year-old from Ammerbuch started out in 2011 in a Mercedes-Benz of the tankpool24 team, which itself is situated not quite 40 km away. A diplomate in administrative studies, Steffi began her racing career in karts, like almost all racing drivers do. Soon she’d moved up through Formula Renault and touring cars to the Porsche Carrera series and, finally, the big ’uns, the 1,200PS-plus battlesteeds of the truck racing world.
In 2012 and 2013 she was French national champion driving an MAN for the Lion team, and since 2015 she’s been a part of Reinert Racing driving Hahn MAN racetrucks, winning her first race in the ETRC, indeed the first by a woman in the series.
Steffi created a stir when she first stepped into truck racing five years ago - not only with her long, blond mane but also with her love for electric-pink shoes.
It’s this colour that’s now permanently associated with her truck racing persona.
Lion Racing fitted her race truck with a set of pink-coated alloy wheels, and her Reinert Racing crew has painted not only the housings of her rear-view mirrors but also the fifth-wheel coupling of her MAN race truck a bright Steffi pink!
