Saturday in Nogaro Part 2 – ...and tankpool24’s first win to boot

11. June 2016Nogaro - Kiss came out last and went in first - that’s how you could describe the proceedings before the start of the first race of the weekend. The Hungarian made his way to the grid a few moments before the “Pit Lane Closed” sign flashed. Had his crew been beavering away at the truck for so long? Or were they just extremely relaxed?
After all, winning SuperPole at the third race weekend was already more than the tankpool24 team could have imagined in its wildest dreams. In the race the Mercedes truck ran totally problem-free, and the going’s only going to get better for MB Motorsport.
The start had everyone on the edge of their seats. Kiss and Lacko were side by side for the first kilometre, and it was difficult to tell who’d nose ahead. But exiting the curve leading to the long back straight Kiss seized the advantage, and from then on there was no stopping him.
When the trucks of Forman and Steffi Halm collided heavily and skidded off into the gravel behind the Mercedes pilot in the very first lap, Kiss was long out of the danger zone. By then Lacko and Hahn too were out of harm’s (Halm’s!) way. Janiec and Reinert were lucky not to get caught out. The rest of the field was forced to take evasive action.
While Forman freed himself out of the gravel trap in no time, Halm could only struggle free with great difficulty. That cost the young pilotess two laps and any chance of collecting points. But Steffi showed that she’s made of sterner stuff, going on to set the fifth-fastest lap of the race with her battered MAN.
Kiss meanwhile was enjoying a growing lead at the front, a position he’s been so accustomed to over the last couple of seasons.
The podium place behind him was bitterly contested till the final moment.
It often looked like Hahn would overtake Lacko, but the Czech slammed the door shut each time, salvaging his 2nd place by a few tenths at the flag.
The fight for 5th was just as close. Here it clearly appeared that Reinert had overtaken Janiec on a few occasions, only to have the Frenchman, to the wild jubilation of his compatriots in the stands, sweep back ahead. At the finish Janiec’s lead was just four tenths.
Lenz was sixth ahead of Lohr and Rodrigues, who with his 8th place secured pole position for the day’s second race.
The last two finishers in the points were Kleinnagelvoort and Forman.
Tankpool24 (Kiss / Kursim) was the top team, ahead of Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) and Buggyra International (Lacko / Forman).
