Sunday in Spielberg Part 2 –Lacko wins in the wet

01. May 2016Spielberg - If you thought the rain would at least let up before the start of Sunday’s first race, you were in for disappointment. On the other hand, you’d be equally disappointed if you expected the slippery track to throw up extremely spectacular contact racing. That’s because the truck racers had, during the warm-up, qualifying, and SuperPole, learnt all they needed to adapt to the adverse conditions.
Also race control had made adequate allowances for the circumstances, including two formation laps behind the pace truck and then two more under yellow flags, i.e. with overtaking forbidden.
Polesitter Lacko set the pace - a pace, indeed, that Hahn, who’d stood alongside him on the grid, simply couldn’t match. By the time the restraints were lifted the Czech’s lead was already unusually large. Lacko continued to disappear into the horizon, and there was no doubt he’d win.
Everyone’s attention now turned to the battles among the rest. Hahn had his hands full holding off his assertive compatriot Körber. Every now and again, when it looked like the Iveco pilot would just get ahead, the MAN in blue-and-white somehow came through a nose ahead.
All this while Reinert was at great pains to defend his fourth place from Janiec, who seemed to have better come to terms with the conditions underfoot. After a third of the race the Lusatian had to yield and Janiec swept past. The Frenchman then set off in pursuit of the German Hahn-Körber duo ahead, making short work of Körber and then, three laps before the finish, also Hahn for second place and worthy acclaim.
Reinert now was trying to hold off Smith’s ferocious attacks. In the final lap the Briton entarily lost control, and with that lapse also two places. And so Reinert was followed home by Kiss in 6th, ahead of Forman and Smith - who, with his 8th-place finish collected pole for the last race of the weekend.
The last two places in the points went to Vojtíšek and Altenstrasser.
Buggyra International (Lacko / Forman) took the team honours, ahead of Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert) and Lion Truckracing / Lenz (Janiec / Lenz).
