Saturday in Nogaro Part 3 – Kiss back on course

20. June 2015Nogaro - The weather was what you might expect at the height of summer here, even if the temperature wasn’t quite 30° (the asphalt in places was measured at 55°). The racing itself was very much cooler in the day’s second heat - at least till the penultimate lap.
Kiss seized the lead from Janiec even before they reached the first corner, and what proceeded to unfold thereafter is difficult to explain.
At the end of the first lap Kiss was already 8–10 trucklengths ahead; at the finish the gap was 23 seconds - an eternity. Another impressive start-to-flag victory to underpin the Hungarian’s championship ambitions.
Behind Kiss the racing was very close.
Janiec, who led the following pack, was too busy keeping his own pursuers, well, in pursuit to be able to give chase himself. And so Reinert, Albacete, Lacko, Vršecký, and Hahn presently queued up behind the Frenchman, each of the trucks in kissing contact with the one ahead.
At some remove the two ladies in the field, Steffi Halm and Ellen Lohr, could do no more than watch what was happening, or rather not happening, ahead of them.
Till the penultimate lap.
In a dicey move, Albacete forced his way ahead of Reinert into third, causing the Lusatian to lose several places in the bargain. The Spaniard crossed the finish line half a second behind Janiec, and only a tenth ahead of Lacko. Vršecký was followed home by Hahn in sixth ahead of Reinert.
The three remaining places in the points were taken by Halm, Lohr, and Smith.
Oxxo Lion (Kiss / Janiec) was clearly the top team, with Buggyra (Vršecký / Lacko) and Team Bernau-Albacete (Albacete / Lohr) second and third.
Kiss continues to lead the drivers’ standings with 233 points, followed by Lacko (185), Hahn (168), Vršecký (139), Albacete (134), and Reinert (75).
