Steffi Halm is back

06. June 2015In Misano the twitter up and down pit lane was that the young German racer Steffi Halm would after all participate in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. The rumour actually surfaced a little over a week ago in Spielberg. There the self-assured Swabian, who celebrates her 30th birthday next week, was being discussed as a likely prospect for a specific team. Now it’s official: Steffi has been registered already for the next race in Nogaro, and she’ll be driving for the Reinert Racing team.
Steffi had already tested for the fleetowner from Klettwitz on the Lausitzring last autumn. But uncertainty of what the 2015 season held in prospect for the MAN teams and drivers and resulted in plans for a second truck for Steffi Halm being shelved.
Even then, Reinert didn’t lose his determination to add another truck to his team, at least for the Truck Grand Prix on the Nürburgring - and now he seems to have found a solution.
Team Hahn Racing is now repurposing its exhibition truck. The vehicle is every bit a thoroughbred from the house of Hahn like the ones driven by Jochen Hahn himself, René Reinert, and king of the hill Norbert Kiss. The “ Made in Altensteig” trucks are also, by the way, much in demand even among teams and drivers from the British championship.
Steffi Halm has now been active in motorsport for almost 22 years. At the age of 15 she switched from karts to the formula circuits and later raced touring cars. She’s also gone through Motorsport Akademie Nürburgring and the Deutsche Post Speed Academy. And so, despite her youth, she can boast a wealth of motorsport experience.
Via the Mini Challenge she first came into contact with the tankpool24 team and, indeed, truck racing, spending one season in a Mercedes race truck.
In next to no time Steffi became the darling of the fans and the media.
She shifted to the French Lion team, for whom she raced an MAN in the French National Championship, becoming the first woman to win that series.
Last year Steffi was a regular Top 10 finisher for the Lion team in the FIA ETRC and ended up 10th in the final standings.
