Sunday in Valencia Part 2 – Kiss wins unchallenged

26. April 2015Valencia - The placid conditions – scattered clouds and pleasant afternoon weather with temperatures at around 27°C – were disturbed at the start of the first race by hefty gusts of wind, which blew hats and baseball caps around, tipped sunshades over, and bent some of the free-standing inflatable advertisement arches right to the ground.
None of the commotion seemed to distract polesitter Kiss, who was all concentration at the start. Slotting into the lead in the first corner, he was a whopping seven seconds ahead at the flag.
The battle for second place, meanwhile, was fought over several laps. Hahn had been able to get alongside Lacko right at the start. The German had the inside line into the next two corners, and was thus able to shove ahead into second. Lacko wasn’t going to be shaken off so easily, however, and clung tenaciously to the German MAN pilot’s rear. A third or so into the race Hahn left a weeny opening that allowed an opportunistic Lacko to slingshot ahead. And thus the top three were decided.
Vršecký had to forsake any hopes of a podium finish once again.
Ellen Lohr finished fifth after a somewhat surprising turn of events. Around halfway into the race, Lohr and Janiec got in each other’s way. The Frenchman had managed to stay ahead for several laps, but then Lohr overtook in a corner. But Janiec wasn’t about to lose touch, literally speaking, and made any number of attempts – all without success – to get back in front. At his final try Janiec took off into the tyre barrier. The broken truck was deemed to represent a safety hazard and the yellow flags were double-waved, requiring the trucks to slow down in preparation to stop.
Reinert and Albacete, who’d been chasing Vršecký, were ruled to have driven faster than acceptable in this portion of the circuit and given drive-through penalties, promoting Lohr into fifth.
Eighth place, and with it pole position for the final race, went to Kleinnagelvoort. Rodrigues was ninth, ahead of Spanish race-by-race pilot Pedro Garcia (Iveco).
Buggyra (Vršecký / Lacko) once again took the team honours, ahead of Team Oxxo-Lion (Kiss / Janiec) and Reinert Adventure (Hahn / Reinert).
