Kiss committed to defending his title

21. March 2015The 2014 FIA European Truck Racing Championship was a down-to-the wire battle between the mighty MANs of Hungarian Norbert Kiss, Spaniard Antonio Albacete, and German Jochen Hahn, separated by all of 7 points going into the ultimate round in Le Mans with 60 points up for grabs. Failure to finish a race there would have meant the end of that driver’s dreams of winning the title.
In the event none of the three favourites stumbled, but Kiss took the championship by virtue of his winning both days’ first races, in which the winner took double points.
It’s right here, on the top step of the podium, that the MAN pilot has decided he wants to stand at the end of this year, so that he can go into next season once again with the start number 1 on his truck.
His truck, leased from Hahn Racing last season, has since been acquired by OXXO. And like the other top teams the Hungarians too will race with engines leased from Piedrafita Sport SL, the Madrid-headquartered engineering firm that has taken over service responsibility for the MAN D2676 RTs.
OXXO’s other MAN race truck, the one driven by Benedek Major, is up for sale, but could also alternatively also be let out to guest drivers at individual races.
The team’s focus now is on the race on the Hungaroring in Budapest, which it has striven to make a reality ever since its emergence in the FIA ETRC. And it is determined to make a splash.
But OXXO has also set its sights beyond the ETRC, and is getting its feet wet in the ChampTruck World Series in the USA. Christian Szabó will race a new Volvo race truck built by OXXO in this newly created series across the Atlantic.
