Sunday in Jarama Part 2 - Hahn the winner in 20-points race

06. October 2013Jarama - Polesitter Kiss and Hahn were only two-thousandths of a second apart in the SuperPole, evidently equally strong. And so the suspense that built over who would win the race to the first corner was understandable. Here was Hahn’s big chance to virtually erase Albacete’s lead in the championship with a win in this 20-points race (the winner of the second race of the day gets only 10 points). But the Hungarian shot into the lead at the start and Albacete slotted into third place ahead of the two Czechs Vršecký and Lacko. While the two leaders were able to put a gap between themselves and the rest of the field, Albacete had to concentrate on keeping his immediate pursuers under control. Hahn followed close on frontrunner Kiss’s heels, but didn’t mount any serious assault for a while. But then suddenly, he imperiously swept ahead and managed to keep his Hungarian MAN colleague a couple of metres behind him all the way till the finish.
Two laps later Lacko crashed at full tilt into the tyre barrier in the curve leading into the finish straight; steering damage had rendered the Renault unmanoeuvrable. Albacete thus had one pursuer less, but he continued to be harried by Bösiger and Vršecký. The first two places atop the podium were already as good as won by Hahn and Kiss, but then Albacete was able to loose himself from Bösiger’s toils, the Swiss visibly weakening. Towards the end of the race even Vršecký passed Bösiger, who had to be content to finish fifth only barely ahead of Mäkinen, Reinert, and Major. The young Hungarian was thus in pole position for the final race of the weekend. The two remaining points places were taken by Janiec and the Czech Frankie Vojtíšek (MAN).
Castrol Team Hahn Racing (Hahn / Mäkinen) was the top team in the race, followed by OXXO Energy Truck Race Team (Kiss / Major) and the new team champions Truck Sport Lutz Bernau (Albacete / Oestreich).
