Sunday in Jarama – part 1

07. October 2012Jarama - The night at Circuito del Jarama had not been as cold as it was and during the warm-up session of the 10th race of the FIA European Truckracing Championship the race track had also not been as wet as the day before. The Spanish fans could cheer for their idol Antonio Albacete (MAN), because he drove the best time. To everyone’s surprise his Finnish brand mate Mika Mäkinen drove the second best time. Mäkinen was also racing at the front during the timed practice, which had followed. Albacete was having the lead again. He was two hundredth faster than the German title holder Jochen Hahn (MAN) and right behind him was Mäkinen. The list of the top ten for the Super Pole was being completed by both Renault drivers Anthony Janiec (FRA) and Markus Bösiger (SUI) followed by the Czech David Vrsecky (Buggyra Freightliner), Markus Oestreich (GER) in his Renault, the MAN driver Norbert Kiss (HUN) as well as the Czech Adam Lacko (Renault) and the Frenchman Dominique Lacheze (MAN).
However, the top ten drivers like to push their luck, often times even until the Super Pole and that is also how it was today. Even though Mäkinen improved by more than half a second, he placed 9th in the end, with Janiec behind him. It became extremely exciting at the front in the last moment. Right from the start Albacete set the best time which no one was able to catch up on. For everyone it seemed clear that the Spaniard would win the Pole, but then Hahn came around and in the very last moment he drove one-tenth faster. Bösiger placed 3rd ahead of Oestreich, Vrsecky, Lacko, Kiss, Mäkinen and Janiec.
