Saturday in Nogaro – part 2

23. June 2012Nogaro - Right when the first race started at 2 p.m. the temperatures where well above 30 C° and there was not even a gentle breeze. At times it was simply too hot to stand. However, the poleman Albacete did not let the weather distract him and he took the lead right after the start with Hahn following him closely. They were both able to break away from their immediate rivals Oestreich and Bösiger. The two MKR-Renault drivers, on the other hand, seemed to have accepted their places and did not compete against each other. Up front it always looked like as if Hahn was going to proceed to an attack at any given chance. In the end the title holder, however, had to yield to Albacete and accept the second place. Lacko placed 5th behind Bösiger and before Vrsecky, Mäkinen and Lacheze. Thus, the Frenchman ensured the Pole for the second race. Mariezcurrena and Belloc received the last points.
It was extremely impressive to see how Lacheze turned the Pole into a far superior victory, even without an additional front spoiler. At the start the Frenchman clearly took the lead and was able to pull clear off his rival Mäkinen. The Fin was significantly slower than Lacheze, but also apparently a lot slower than his rivals, who started to chase him in a matter of seconds. However, only Lacko managed to pass Mäkinen, but he kept the rest of the rivals in check. In the meantime, Lacheze had been able to clearly pull away from the others and had a 10 second – advantage over them when passing the finish line. Lacko was also able to drive his laps without any hassle, because the drivers behind him fought so intensively that they did not have a chance to catch up on him. The chase group of six (Mäkinen, Vrsecky, Hahn, Oestreich, Albacete and Bösiger) drove over the finish line with only 2 seconds in between each other. Rene Reinert (GER, MAN) and the Renault driver Anthony Janiec (FRA) ensured the last two top-ten places. Janiec won this one point in a close fight with MAN driver Norbert Kiss (HUN) and both of them shed many feathers – meaning plastic components. Reinert had also been involved in some duels: He had a touch with Mariezcurrena and later on the Spaniard ended up in the gravel, together with Ellen Lohr (Mercedes-Benz).While Mariezcurrena had to give up, the German Lohr was able to get free, but did only follow the other drivers eventually without ever catching up on them again. The overall drivers ranking is still being led by Hahn with 171 points, followed by Albacete (166), Oestreich (132), Lacko (107), Vrsecky (89) and Bösiger (79 points). In both races MKR-Technology clinched the number one place of the team ranking before Pneu Bösiger-Team 14 and Blaise/Bouzige Truck Racing.
