Saturday in Jamara – part 1

09. June 2012Jarama - In the morning the temperatures were little bit over 10 C° combined with a cloudless sky. However, the cold temperatures did not seem to be the reason that only few fans were on the grandstands and there were also not many people in the paddock, which is uncommon for Jamara. There were no sponsorship activities as well. The drivers of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship entirely focused on both runs of the free practice. Everyone was anxious to see how fast both drivers from Frankie OXXO Truck Racing Team, Frankie Vojtisek (CZE) and Norbert Kiss (HUN) would drive. In fact, both drivers became faster and faster each lap. In the end, Kiss was even among the top ten. Up front it remained the same as in other races at the beginning of the season. Jochen Hahn (GER) was first and the MAN-colleague, Antonio Albacete (ESP) followed close behind. It took both MKR-Renaults from Markus Bösiger (SUI) and Markus Oestreich (GER) one more second for one lap.
At around noon it became serious and the first qualifying began. Before they even started, the red flags were being waved. The race was stopped. Kiss came to a halt in the middle of the race track and had to be towed away. Most of the top drivers had already been satisfied with their first qualifying laps and hoped that they would be good enough to be in the top ten. After waiting for a long time, the rest of the drivers tried to get a move on. In the end Hahn, Oestreich, Albacete, Bösiger, both Czechs Adam Lacko (Renault) and David Vrsecky (Buggyra Freightliner), both MAN drivers Mika Mäkinen (FIN) and Dominique Lacheze (FRA), Anthony Janiec (FRA, Renault) as well as MAN-Pilot Xavier Mariezcurrena (ESP) qualified for SuperPole. Due to a technical defect during the SuperPole, Lacheze was only able to crawl over the finish line and had to be satisfied with placing 10th. Hahn secured the first position and Albacete, Oestreich, Lacko, Vrsecky, Bösiger, Mäkinen, Janiec, Mariezcurrena and Lacheze follow him.
