After all there will be two races in Spain

10. March 2012Last Friday the FIA published a press release of the World Motor Sport Council, which entailed several changes and some additions regarding almost all FIA motor sport series. They elaborated on the problems that occurred concerning the 3rd heat of the FIA Truck Racing Championship – but no one would have expected it to turn out the way it did. ”Due to financial problems, the Albacete event has been removed from the calendar by the Spanish Federation and replaced with Madrid on the same date.” This means that the truck racers will not be at the starting line in Albacete on June 9th and 10th, but instead in Jarama – the same will happen 4 months later on the 6th and 7th of October. Two races during one season on one race track are a novelty and that will give room for thoughts and debates. Within the scope of the press release, the WMSC also announced: “In addition to the points awarded to officially entered drivers and teams finishing 1st – 10th in races 1,2,3 and 4, half a point will be awarded to any driver classified 11th – 20th in the general classification of the event.” In the end there will be no driver without any points, but that will not have a major impact. The real ranking, which would actually show the different performances of the drivers, will still not exist. While the statements from above had been confirmed by the FIA there are only rumors spreading about the truck racing ambitions from Uwe Nittel (GER) and Chris Levett (GBR).It is said that neither of them will drive the same race truck again which they drove in 2011. In the rumor mill Stuart Oliver currently appears to be the favored candidate for Nittel’s place in the Truck Sport Lutz Bernau team. So far, nothing has been said about who is going to replace Levett in the Buggyra team.
