Gerd Körber in ‚Schwaben Truck’

03. July 2010Gerd Körber, nicknamed ‘Mr. Truck Racing’ by his fans, returns to truck racing – but only for one race in the Schwaben Truck (Swabian Truck) during the Truck Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. This year the TGP celebrates its 25th anniversary, and the organizers are eager to offer something special. And indeed, they were able to win Gerd Körber – the 3 times European champion and multiple vice champion – to participate at the Ring. It’s been 2 years that the businessman from Rheinau retired from truck racing. But no one knows better than the champ himself that you can never let go of truck racing. 23 years ago the young Körber made his debut in a race truck, and in his long career he had been piloting almost all existing brands: his own Phoenix MAN he won the European Championship with, the unique SISU with the Mercedes Benz engine, the DAF SuperRaceTruck, the Buggyra SuperRaceTruck he became champion with twice, the Freightliner Buggyra, the MAN; and now the 47 year old takes up a new challenge – he is going to pilot the private Iveco of the Team Schwaben Truck.
The troop around Schorsch Glöckler, no less obsessed with truck racing than Körber himself, is currently engaged in constructing a white RaceTruck – supported by Thermo-King-Süd in Ulm and the Swabian Iveco dealer Prem – for Körber to take part in the Mittelrhein Cup at the TGP. This is a totally private initiative. The people in the team devote the bigger part of their leisure time to work on the Schwaben Truck. In the remaining time they try to find additional sponsors whose logos they want to use in order to beautify the snow white truck. Of course they are well aware that this is a task even more difficult to achieve in mid-season. However, everybody is highly motivated and full of confidence; after all, with Gerd Körber they have got one of the most popular and most successful truck racers in Europe.
For Phoenix MAN, DAF and Buggyra Körber has carried out very successful pioneering work – which means best prospects for the Iveco of the Schwaben Truck Team.
