Fabien Calvet – New FIA Coordinator

16. March 2010During the start of the season of the Formula 1 in Bahrain last weekend the FIA World Motor Sport Council held a meeting there. At this conference there were also made some important decisions in regard to the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. The Spaniard Manuel Vidal (source: FIA Press Release 100311) was appointed as the new Chairman of the Truck Racing Commission, and Fabien Calvet was appointed Coordinator of the a.m. commission. Calvet stressed that this was totally independent of his chairmanship with the TRO (Truck Racing Organisation), founded by Calvet recently. Quote: The TRO is, first of all, a representation of interest of all the teams of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. In future they are going to aim for a uniform external presentation, which means that all people interested in truck racing, especially from the economic and industrial sector, will have a professional contact person to turn to.
Now he will be able to optimally reconcile his job as a coordinator with tasks in the TRO. The ultimate goal is to further develop the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. And improving the coordination between the truckers/staff, organizers, sponsors and media people will be given top priority. Specifically he wants to apply himself to increasing the involvement of the manufacturers and plans to encourage new ones to get involved in truck racing. All in all he was downright optimistic during the conversation. This was now the first step, however, a rather big one. Unquote
It could have a positive effect that – with the French journalist as contact person – there will be someone who knows the truck racing business inside out from his time as an active truck racer and race organizer, as well as FIA Technic Delegate.
As Calvet said – after the current motor sports season the FIA will probably completely revise the sport commission system of all series, so that the appointment of the new chairman is only on a time-limited basis.
