Truck Racing Dates now official

17. November 2008Almost 2 weeks ago the World Sport Council of the FIA held a meeting and determined the racing dates for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship 2009, and finally the dates were now released for publication. Everything remains as already stated in our report of October 24th. There will be a total of ten racing events. The start of the season will take place on May 9th and 10th in Assen / Netherlands. Last time there was a round being held at the TT Circuit – exactly 4 years ago – the SuperRaceTrucks were still in the running, and it was absolutely bucketing down. Next circuits on the agenda are Misano and Albacete – almost to the day at the same times as this year, followed by Nogaro which has again proceeded to its traditional date, the third June weekend (June 20th and 21st). But, contrary to what’s customary since 2001, the next destination for the truck racers will not be the TGP on the Ring, but the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona is scheduled for July 4th and 5th. After the annual highlight of the season on the Nürburgring (July 24th – July 26th) there will be a longer break, and then it’s off to Most (August 29th and 30th). And, same as this year, after Zolder and Le Mans the truck racers will meet in Jarama on October 4th and 5th for the final round.
And again only once there will be events taking place on two consecutive weekends (Zolder and Le Mans). Towards the end of this year’s season it was still put about in the paddock that there were plans to have three races each at the beginning and the end of the season within a timeframe of 14 days. This idea brought about a heated protest from all the truck racers – and it seems to have worked.
