Misano – Preliminary Report

Misano – Preliminary Report

21. May 2008Last year Misano and Zolder switched the dates for their racing events, because the Italians had feared that the new track surface they had applied in particular for the MotoGP, could possibly be damaged by the RaceTrucks with their weight of 5, thus putting the motorbike pilots at risk. This year the event at the circuit south of Rimini is back to its traditional date – the third weekend in May.
As a rule there is always fine weather at the Adria during the races, but it seems that this year the weather gods do not intend to spoil the truck racers with sunshine. After the rain-swept weekend in Barcelona there might be ‘rainy’ races in Misano, too. At least for Sunday afternoon the weather services forecast a 50 % chance of precipitation.
For the second round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship 23 pilots are registered; Franck Conti and Steve Horne had already called off beforehand. For the Swedish Scania pilot, Mikael Johansson, and for Chris Levett it will be their first start at the European championship this season. Egon Allgäuer, whose condition we don’t know anything about in regard to the injuries he suffered in Barcelona, as well as his team mate Mikhail Konovalov are expected to come, too. The Russian did not sustain any injuries in Spain, but his truck appeared to be no less damaged than the one of his team boss.
As Horne does not come to Misano, Jose Bermejo could be the only one getting points in the team championship for the late registered fourth team. But in the entry list, dated May 19, only Buggyra (Bösiger/Vrsecky), Koller + Schwemmer (Hahn/Belloc) and Frankie Truck Racing (Vojtisek/Altenstrasser) are stated.
