Co-Pilot in a RaceTruck

Co-Pilot in a RaceTruck

06. April 2008To be in a RaceTruck as a pilot once in a lifetime and enjoy this unique feeling – like at the Nürburgring shown in above photo – that seems to be the burning desire of many truck racing fans. So there was an increasing amount of requests recently for such rides. And we can wholeheartedly confirm that such a ride in a RaceTruck on a circuit is an unforgettable experience.
Up until some years ago it was common practice at almost any race event to offer press and PR rides on Thursdays or Fridays. And the teams had also the opportunity to speed along the track with their guests, first of all their sponsors. Often it was a pretty good way of convincing sponsors to keep at it. But then the FIA imposed almost unaccomplishable restrictions for the passengers. They were under obligation to wear the same outfits as the pilots themselves, i.e., not only the helmet, which was required so far, but also fireproof underwear, racing overall and racing shoes.
There were howls of protest both from the teams and the organizers, and eventually the FIA refrained from insisting on fireproof shoes and underwear, but to have racing overalls on hand in great quantities and, above all, in all sizes proved to be difficult, too.
As a result these press and PR rides were restricted and continued to be an integral part of the programme in Nogaro only. Now and then, without much of an advance notice, there were some rides in Most, too, on Friday afternoons, if the teams had the necessary outfits for the co-pilots available.
Last year the ADAC Mittelrhein decided to test-marked the following proposition: for the Truck Grand Prix at the Nürburgring they offered rides in combination with a special weekend ticket. This came like a bombshell, and in no time the tickets were sold out.
Several fans had immediately booked tickets in advance for this year, and before the actual advance sale was in full swing, the 220 Euro tickets were already sold out. So those of you who plan for next year to have first-hand experience of that unique feeling to sit in a RaceTruck, should hurry up and contact the ADAC Mittelrhein to put their name down for tickets.
And if otherwise you want to treat yourself to some exceptional experience for the Truck Grand Prix on the Ring – then there is the VIP packet which includes the following: T4 ticket and car park ticket, free meals and beverages in the ‘Jaguar Lounge’ above the pit lane on Saturday and Sunday. The price of 385,- Euro is almost on the level of the Formula 1, but for that amount you would only be entitled to a hard plastic seat of the lower price category.
