Markus Bösiger definitely European Champion

Markus Bösiger definitely European Champion

14. December 2007Now it’s official – after yesterday’s negotiations in the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris there was eventually a decision; the FIA European Truck Racing Champion 2007 is Markus Bösiger. At last the wrangling about the 10 seconds penalty that title holder Antonio Albacete got for attacking Bösiger’s team mate, David Vrsecky, during the final race of the season in Jarama is over. With this attack the Spaniard snatched away the second place from the Czech and gained the necessary points to secure the title. A third place for the Cepsa MAN pilot would have meant the championship victory for Bösiger.
Directly after the end of the race there was a hearing in Jarama that took about 4 hours with the consequence that afore mentioned 10 seconds penalty was imposed on the Spaniard, which cost him the second place and hence his successful title defence. About four weeks later the National Spanish Motorsports Association in Madrid repealed these sanctions, and now Albacete would have been champion. But immediately Buggyra lodged their protest at the FIA, and now in Paris this appeal was admitted definitely. In a first telephone conversation after this decision Bösiger declared to be very relieved, after all, not only the Swiss media had already proudly celebrated him as the country’s first European champion in truck racing.
