Preliminary Report Most

21. August 2006Ten weeks after the last race where points could be scored for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, there will be the next race in Most (the Czech Republic) this weekend where again points can be made. Although nothing could be gained at the races on the Nürburgring, which are actually the highlight of the season (though some people dismiss the event as a mere show business) the pilots showed total commitment. The one who paid dearly for his willingness to engage in the hard fights, was Frankie Vojtisek, who had planned something special for the race in his home country – on the Autodrom in Most he wanted to drive the new Renault for the first time. However, during the tests it soon became clear that the deficiency caused by the smaller (by nearly 2 litres) homologated engine could not be compensated. So it was decided to drive the old race truck for the rest of the season. But after the disastrous accident on the Ring it looked as if Vojtisek now had no choice but to switch to the new truck for the races in Most. In the end, however, the team decided to overhaul the accident damaged truck in order to finish the season with it.
But Vojtisek is not the only one who can drive the circuit of Most “with both hands tied”; Adam Lacko, too – after his three-months truck racing time out – is panting to show his opponents that he is still his own old self. Buggyra’s race truck workshops are less than 60 kilometres away from the circuit and, of course, the Freightliner pilots David Vrsecky and Gerd Körber do most of their testing and training on that circuit. And also the three Mercedes pilots, Jochen Hahn, Markus Oestreich, and Niko Pulic, are hot favourites for a podium. Hahn got the highest possible score of 60 points in Nogaro and now has 10 more points than Körber in the overall standing. However, the Buggyra pilot – inspired by his new title International Truck Master Germany – could challenge the Swabian in Most and maybe take the lead. And Oese, being in forth position of the overall standing, is only 44 points behind the leading pilot. Considering that there are four more rounds to go, there is still the chance to catch up. Antonio Albacete, now on third position, fell a bit back since Nogaro; nevertheless, it’s still possible for him to defend his title. Markus Bösiger is really in the ascendant at the moment. In Nogaro the man from Switzerland – despite the unfortunate total failure of his truck at the first Cup race – was forth in the line of eager point collectors, and on the Ring he was second in the Master overall standings. However, because of the rather poor performances in the early stage of the season, the odds are that Bösiger “missed the boat”. For Markus Altenstrasser, after getting a podium twice, in Nogaro as well as on the Ring, in Most it will be very difficult for him to ride along on the crest of the wave of success, because the young Austrian is not familiar with this circuit. There will be 20 truck racers at the start, including guest starter Mikael Johansson.
According to tradition, the race in Most is a kind of home race for the German pilots, as well, because from neighbouring Germany there will be thousands of fans coming to Most, and so the commentaries at the circuit will be not only in Czech, but also in German.
Re: Television
On June 6, 2006, the company responsible for EUROSPORT truck racing reports announced by e-mail that the Most report will be broadcast on September 12, 2006, which would be 2 days after the races in Zolder. Moreover, there was a broadcast date for the TGP on the Nürburgring on July 25. All that was contradictory to what the TV people had told in Albacete on June 4. And in the EUROSPORT motor sports preview up to and including September 24, there is no announcement about truck racing. So the fans can only inform themselves by searching the EUROSPORT video text or website to find out about the broadcasting times.
How much the fans “thirst” for moving images of truck racing can be seen by the fact that in less than two weeks – since the D:SF video of the Truck Grand Prix on the Ring is available as streaming on this page – more than 15,000 people watched this video.
