Buggyra in Bonn

06. July 2006On Sunday, the ‘Nürburgring on Tour’ had a stopover at the ‘Südkurve’ of the Münsterplatz in Bonn. And the centre of attention was Gerd Körber’s Buggyra Freightliner. But the two Buggyra employees, Vojta Loupal and Jakub Canek, had to do a lot of precision work, before the audience could gaze at the race truck at close range. Truck Racing manager Séline Hellmonds had piloted the huge trailer through the narrow streets of Bonn, and eventually they had to reverse through the narrow approach leading to the Münsterplatz. As the Münster Basilica is being restored this summer, the hoarding around the church and the barriers at the ‘Südkurve’ on the other side made it a big challenge to get to the location. And so Vojta’s steering skills were regarded with curiosity mixed with scepticism by the crowd. Apart from the Freightliner there were some other racing vehicles, such as a Porsche of the 24 Hours Races, a BMW and a Polo of the endurance championship VLN. People could sit in a simulator and experience a ‘real race feeling’ and could learn how to get out of a car which was lying upside down. All day long videos of truck races and touring car races were shown on the big screen where normally the football games of the FIFA World Cup are watched. Hence the ‘appropriate’ prize for a contest where a tyre had to be changed at a smaller Formula race car – a ticket for the semi-final Portugal : France.
But those who were more interested in motor sports, didn’t go short either. Here the prizes given by the Nürburgring GmbH were not only tickets for the F1 weekend 2007 and an opportunity to have a ride in the Ring Taxi but there were also tickets for the Truck Grand Prix on July 21st – 23rd, which included sitting in a race truck as a co-pilot for some laps.
