VW Constellation becomes Pace Truck

VW Constellation becomes Pace Truck

05. April 2006The photograph above shows the race version of the new Volkswagen Constellation, with which they take part at the Truckracing in Brazilia. With this new production series - naturally, the normal version - Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge will manifest their market leadership in the ressort of Heavy Trucks. In Europe this truck will be introduced to the public as a Pace Truck during the FIA European Truck Racing Championship.
In February there was a 40 tons Constellation on the roads in Germany; however, for the time being they will focus on South America and other 'Emerging Markets'. With its 6-litre Cummins engine and 320 HP, the Constellation was no doubt constructed for the purpose of the South American market, and would not stand a chance at the European Truck Racing. The standards for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship are so different that a 12-litre engine for a series-production truck is a must.
For 2 years now Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge was title holder of the - no longer held - SuperRaceTruck class with their Titan Trucks, and the Wolfsburg group will continue to be present at the European Truck Racing, at least with their Pace Truck. At the Brazilian truck races the Constellation will also serve as a Pace Truck, and of course VWN doesn't want to be first at the formation lap only, for the sports version of the predecessor, VW 18.310 Titan, was extremely successful on Brazilian race tracks during the last years.
