Saturday in Most Part 1 - Kiss takes his rightful place

29. August 2015Most - Saturday too didn’t start off with the brilliant sunshine the weathermen had promised. Nevertheless it was as warm as you might expect in summer in Most, and more importantly there was no rain.
After the morning’s warm-up session, in which Spaniard Antonio Albacete (MAN) was quickest with 2:02.252s, the first qualifying phase of this 6th round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship was on the schedule.
The top drivers were back in the pits after one flying lap apiece.
Hungarian defending champ Norbert Kiss (MAN) with 2:02.201s was only marginally quicker than Albacete had been in the warm-up. But then the objective was only to be certain of a top 10 time that qualifies a driver for the SuperPole, the shootout that decides the first 10 grid positions.
Kiss and Albacete were joined for the SuperPole by their German MAN colleague Jochen Hahn, the two Czech Buggyra pilots Adam Lacko and David Vršecký, a mini German armada consisting of Gerd Körber (Iveco), René Reinert, Steffi Halm, and Ellen Lohr, and Czech Frankie Vojtíšek (all MAN).
Kiss went all out for a lap of 2:01.854s, four-hundredths quicker than Hahn’s best in yesterday’s free practice. Hahn managed second on the grid, but couldn’t come near his time from Friday.
Lacko, Albacete, Vršecký, Reinert, Halm, Körber, Lohr, and Vojtíšek make up the rest of the top 10.
