Team Schwabentruck will field two Ivecos once again

Team Schwabentruck will field two Ivecos once again

01. March 2015As you read this, the Schwabentruck team in Ulm is as hard at work as the Hahn outfit some 150 km west. Never mind that Schwabentruck’s ambitions are altogether different from Castrol Team Hahn Racing’s. While Jochen Hahn is unequivocal about his wanting to win back the European championship he lost in 2014, Schwabentruck team boss Schorsch Glöckler has no such pretensions. In 2015, he says, he wants his team to be racing in at least five of the 10 rounds.
To the persistent question last year about how soon Team Schwabentruck would race a full season, Glöckler’s response was that this was a matter of finding adequate finance. Team Schwabentruck is, after all, a purely private team, composed entirely of enthusiasts, all of whom willingly giveup their free time to work on the project, and sacrifice their holidays to make the journeys to the races.
The Iveco team’s 2015 season will start at the second round on the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Both its drivers will be in action there — German thrice-champion Gerd Körber and his Austrian comrade-in-arms Markus Altenstrasser. Both Iveco Stralis trucks will of course be back at the Truck Grand Prix on the Nürburgring, the climactic event of the season.
At the moment Körber’s starship is being rebuilt and updated.
The first test outing at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic is envisaged for the end of March.
For the long summer break the plan is to take part in the meeting of Group B rally legends in Saalfelden, Austria, in mid-July. That would be another unusual PR appearance for the Iveco Stralis race trucks. In November last year one of the 5,5-tonners went head-to-head against a super-lightweight sportscar from the Fiat family, the carbon-fibre Alfa Romeo 4C, in a duel set up by enthusiast car magazine auto, motor und sport. You can watch a video of the race on Youtube. No prizes for guessing — the Alfa had just no chance.
