29. December 2014Mike Ryan is one of the world’s best-known stuntmen. The American is a big fan of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, a frequent guest of the TRO at the ETRC races, and a personal friend of TRO president Fabien Calvet and truck racing legend Boije Ovebrink. Above all, Ryan is famous for his 13 victories in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the most spectacular mountain race in the world — and, of course, for his breathtaking truck stunts.
This year Ryan didn’t have it so good on Pikes Peak, totalling his Freightliner in training itself. But hardly half a year later the daredevil driver had recovered from that horror to scrap another truck — on demand! His most recent coup de main involved a jump of 25.48 metres (83 feet, 7 inches), a new long jump world record for a tractor-semitrailer rig, flying clean over a Lotus Formula 1 car driven under the trailer as it took off from the ramp. The semi-truck that Ryan so spectacularly wrecked was a decommissioned transporter of the Lotus F1 team. With the video of the jump on our Facebook page we bid our more than 1.5 million fans from over 120 countries goodbye for 2014.
