Markus Oestreich took his Renault to an easy win in the 4th Championship race of the weekend at Nürburgring, the German driver gaining a comfortable margin over his main rivals as early race leader Anthony Janiec delayed all the other serious contenders with some very defensive driving of the Team 14 Renault in the first half of the race.
Eventually Janiec fell back to be classified 5th overall – which allowed David Vrsecky (Freightliner) and Antonio Albacete (MAN) to join Oestreich on the victory podium,
Markus Bosiger – the nearest challenger to Albacete in the title chase – looked set to collect 7 points with a strong 4th place in the second of the MKR Renaults, but the Swiss driver was penalised 10 seconds for overspeeding, so finally ended up classified 6th in the official results, promoting Chris Levett (MAN) to 4th.
Albacete therefore leaves the Nürburgring event with a healthy 31-point lead in the FIA European Championship.
