Antonio Albacete (MAN) grabbed pole position for Championship race 3 with a flying lap of 1m.55.701s – an improvement of 3/10ths of a second over his best qualifying lap the previous day.
Nearest challenger to the Spanish driver was Markus Oestreich (Renault) with a time of 1m.55.889s while yesterday’ s pole man Chris Levett had to be content with third fastest time on 1m.56.241s.
So where did Albacete and the Cepsa team find their improvement in performance?
“It was a combination of small changes, we adjusted the suspension ‘set-up’ and I also tried some new gearchange points” explained the Spanish driver.
“The 2010 MAN engine has more torque than last year – so we finally found we can pull a higher gear at three points during the lap. But of course we start the weekend working from last years’ data – and it takes a while to find these little improvements which can all save fractions of a second”.
