Saturday’s ADAC Mittelrhein Cup race saw another convincing victory for Chris Levett – the on-form British driver heading the pack from the green light and cruising to take the chequered flag some 18.94 seconds ahead of runner-up Stuart Oliver.
The two MAN drivers were joined on the podium by Gerd Körber – the popular German driver scoring a remarkable third place in the all-new Iveco and a clear 11.86 seconds in front of Hans Joachim Stuck’s MAN.
The other favourite for the Nürburgring crowds was of course Heinz-Werner Lenz in his distinctive orange Mercedes-Benz – but with his engine lacking power he had to settle for 5th.
The Mittelrhein Cup also scores towards the 2010 Delphi British Truck Racing Championship – which meant there were a further two podium ceremonies.
The Class ‘A’ awards went to Levett and Oliver with Mat Summerfield making it an MAN clean-sweep as he collected the 3rd place trophy.
In the fiercely contested Class ‘B’ the top three finishers were Graham Powell (ERF), Andy Lovenberry (Sisu) and Steven Powell (Ford Cargo).
Of course all the winners plus Körber, Stuck, Lenz and co. will be back in action again on Sunday in the second of the Mittelrhein Cup races – which should provide a thrilling finale to the Truck Grand-Prix weekend.
